Staff & Interns
Jamie Rinehart, Malibu Creek Watershed Monitoring Coordinator
Jamie is a graduate from the University of California at San Diego with a degree in environmental systems. She began her career in water quality testing at the San Diego Regional Water Quality Control Board and was hired in December by the City of Calabasas to replace former Coordinator, Jim Medlen. Jamie will see the Project through to completion in March, 2007.
Matthew Horns, Malibu Creek Watershed Monitoring Intern
Matt is a student at California State University at Los Angeles pursuing a master's degree in geology. His thesis is a study on stream bank landslides in Topanga Creek and their impacts to fish. Matt currently serves as the Topanga Canyon Watershed Coordinator and intends to pursue a career in environmental science and watershed management.
Stephen Estes, Malibu Creek Watershed Monitoring Intern
Steve is a Ph.D. student in Ecology at the
University of California, Los Angeles. His thesis is a study on the life
history parameters of freshwater fish and aquatic invertebrates in the
Malibu Creek Watershed with respect to pollution levels. He received his
Bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences from Florida International
University and will pursue a career in wetlands monitoring and
restoration.
Daniel Pankau, Malibu Creek Watershed Monitoring Intern
Daniel Pankau is a student attending California State University Channel Islands pursuing a degree in environmental science and resource management. He is currently working as chief lifeguard at the Santa Monica Swim Center. Daniel's hobbies include fishing, surfing and traveling. He looks forward to potential career in the fields of watershed management or recycling.
Albertino Hernandez, Former Malibu Creek Watershed Monitoring Intern
Albertino is a student at California State University at Northridge and is pursuing a degree in civil engineering. Albertino works with both the Malibu Creek Watershed Monitoring Project and the City of Calabasas Landscaping and Engineering Departments.
Heather Stotland, Former Recycling and Solid Waste Coordinator
Heather works for the City of Calabasas as the Recycling and Solid Waste Coordinator and assists with the Malibu Creek Watershed Monitoring efforts. Heather is a graduate from the University of California at Los Angeles and intends to pursue a master's degree in environmental science.
Donald Reid, Former Malibu Creek Watershed Monitoring Intern
Donny joined the Environmental Services Division in November, 2005. He is finishing a bachelor's degree in environmental science at California Lutheran University this spring and plans to pursue a career in environmental services after his studies.
Allen Nazemi, Former Malibu Creek Watershed Monitoring Intern
Allen is a graduate from California State University Northridge and holds a degree in biology. He has extensive laboratory experience and has worked for both Baxter and Amgen.
Mark Milligan, Former Malibu Creek Watershed Monitoring Intern
Mark holds a law degree from Northwestern California University and a political science degree from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. Mark also has three Grade 2 California Water Operator certificates. He intends to pursue a career in the water operations field.
Sonia Flores, Former Intern
Sonia joined the Environmental Services Division in October, 2005 and worked for both the Malibu Creek Watershed Monitoring Program and the City of Calabasas Environmental Services Division. Sonia left the program in February 2006 to pursue a career in civil engineering.
James Medlen, Former Coordinator
Jim Medlen managed the Malibu Creek Watershed Monitoring Program since inception in 2004 until December, 2005. Jim now lives in Washington with his girlfriend.
Sung Lee, Former Intern
Sung Lee is currently an Undergraduate Geography Student at CSUN with a focus in GIS. His work experience includes GIS web development at the County of Ventura Resource Management Agency. He has learned a great deal about how urban streams and tributaries are affected by urban runoff, pollution and human disturbance.
John Hess, Former Intern
John Hess recently graduated with a B.A. in Geography with Environmental Studies Emphasis from CSUN. His goal for the internship was to gain a professional understanding of how environmental conditions have a direct or indirect effect on land use planning and development.
Chris Hardenbrook, Former Intern
Chris Hardenbrook is an Undergraduate Geography Student at CSUN with an Environmental Studies Focus; he is also completing the GIS Certificate Program. His goal is to work in land stewardship and conservation related projects, particularly if related to watershed restoration and preservation of biodiversity.
